Question 1

So one customer states one can reach in and remove packages (equating it to a trash ca) and the seller says is it is not so. anyone else? theft proof?

My husband's meaty arm can easily reach around the partition/divider thing to grab envelopes or small packages, without damaging the mailbox. A child with a butter knife could pry open the door.  This is NOT a "security" item by any stretch of the imagination, but can still be a reasonable deterrent to walk-by/drive-by thieves. Any reasonably-determined thief could use a pocket knife, pair of pliers, or brute force to open the door or bypass the internal partition with ease.   But we still kept this item because of the lack of other good options. It looks pretty decent, and blends in to the house better than the stand-alone units in this price range.

Does the XL version need to be affixed to something? We would rather it be free-standing.

It does stand on it’s own when empty, but it is not a thick, steel, heavy box. I think it would tip over if it got full or someone would just walk away with the whole thing.  I have it mounted outside on a wall near the regular mailboxes in a commercial building. I also bought a sign that says “package drop” on Amazon so peopke know what it is. It otherwise doesn’t have any markings.
