Wilderness Knits: Scandi-style sweaters for adventuring outdoors

Very interesting and beautiful patterns. I can't wait to get started on knitting them!

I have waited 2 months to finally receive this book. The patterns are gorgeous, easy to follow and the directions are very clear. The book is incredible well put together. Hard cover is very sturdy and the pages lay flat to make following the patterns even easier. The only hard part about this book is picking yarn colors & button designs! I've already casted on my first sweater from this book and I can't wait to get it done!

I wish I had a picture of a sweater I've knitted from her book to share, but I haven't knitted one yet. However, I've used many of her color charts for hats and mittens and cowls. Love, love, love them! Will be buying her other 2 books as soon as they're translated. Otherwise I'm going to have to learn Norwegian... Because her patterns are beautiful!

so first of all, description says theres 23 patterns (or so), while in reality, theres maybe 10 different patterns, and the rest is variation of the same pattern with chunky yarn, worseted yarn and a cardigan. Sorry, but thats not 3 individual patterns for me, thats 1. If anyone wants to make a cardigan out of yoke, its easy to figure it out with a bit of googling. Also I think theres one pattern, that has options yoke vs added sleeves - come on, thats still 1 pattern. Pictures are nice, and sure sweaters are nice, although honestly, this could have been a blog post not a book. If someone is putting so much energy into printing a book, I feel like it should have more valuable content, otherwise this could have been instagram posts or blog entries. Dont waste your money, checkout social media of the author and you'll get enough inpriations to make your own. Theres also no "tips and tricks", or any history/context of norhtern knitting which I feel is a wasted opportunity with this book. I would rewrite it, add 10 more patterns, some section on color knitting and problem solving, more pictures (with different projects, not only different color versions) and then maybe it would be worth the price.

I haven't knitted any of the patterns yet. I'm doing my planning, The book is gorgeous and inspiring. I can review the quality of the instructions once I have knitted something from it. Looking forward to having more of her books translated.

This book helped me to knit my first ever sweater. I did the Wilderness Sweater - see photos - you start with the waist and knit up the body in the round. Then you do both arms before knitting them onto the same needles in the round. You then do the yolk and finish with the neck and joining under the arms which I did with Kitchener stitch. Weaving in the ends took a while! The pattern is brief and to the point - as a new knitter I consulted YouTube videos to help with some bits - eg how to actually join the arms to the body - I had no concept of how to do that. You also have to learn how to catch floats behind the colour work - especially the paws. I’ve started my second sweater from this book. The actual book is lovely to look at too.

This would be a good choice for a knitter with a basic knowledge of colour work who wanted some more designs and ideas. Very experienced knitters might find it a little simple. Clear instructions although you do need to know the basics. Lovely photographs. Great gift for someone looking to move to the next level. Slight issue is that many of the yarns are highly specialised from limited suppliers. Check the yarn weight/gauge then look at substitutes using a website. Doesn't spoil the designs but might be a little frustrating if you're not confident in yarn substitution.

What a fabulous book. I can’t stop looking at it. Had difficulty sourcing the Icelandic Wool for the actual Wilderness Sweater. No one had it in stock. Not even the manufacturers. Finally , a company I’d never heard of, came up on a British Yarn website. The Lace Knittery in Ilminster. What a selection of great wool and they had three of the four colours. Am so happy.

I am currently using the book to knit a Scandi style sweater for myself. Some of the instructions are a bit too brief and I've had to do further research to find advice on the techniques used. All of the wool is for Norwegian and Icelandic Yarns it doesn't have advice on using an alternative yarn. I've had to research that myself. Definitely not for a novice knitter.

This book is filled with terrific patterns. I enjoyed knitting this Fjordfolk jumper. I even did steeking for the first time! I am now knitting a second pattern, and have plans to do one of the cardigans next.
