What's the difference between the hand sharpened 7pc set and the factory sharpened set?

The hand sharpened sets are pre-sharpened by professional carver, Dick Belcher, in Ohio before being sold. This means that these tools are ready to carve with out of the box. We recommend the sharpened sets for beginner carvers who don't have sharpening experience because: 1. Beginners can get started carving right away 2. When you're just starting out, sharpening curved gouges can be difficult. The pre-sharpened tools will give beginners a sharpening template to learn from. The factory sharpened sets are the same profiles and made from the same high quality material. These tools are factory ground and, like most sets, will need to be sharpened to the carving preferences of the carver before use.

Do these tools work well for linocut stampmaking?

I think they are too big for that kind of work.

Where are they manufactured

I checked the knives, bit did not see a country of origin stamp on the. My advice, however, is spend a few more dollars and buy some higher quality knives. The Schaaf blades were dull upon receipt and don’t hold a sharpness for very long. I’ll keep them, but will just have to sharpen them often. AVP

Good value

Good value chisels for the occasional project where I will need them. Spent some time getting all the bevels to suit my use and they sharpened to a good cutting edge and cut very well. Not yet used in 'anger', but can't see any reason they won't do the job. Have also ordered the 'fishtail' gouges to go with them!

Excellent!

Ok, I've only used them for a couple hours so but but I'm happy. They are very sharp out of the package. A little stropping and I was ready. I'm working on straight grained pine and I like the way they cut. I can cut across the grain will little splintering and the angle of the cutting edge is also where I like it.A person can pay $60 + for a singe German or Swiss made gouge that does everything I'm describing but why should I pay for that when I get what I want from these gouges?
