Is It Worth It? (Sewing Edition)
This book has a very high rating and it SHOULD. This book is beautiful and the garments presented are truly works of art. No other book has inspired me to buy some Indian Chintz Fabric so fast as this one. The details are up close the only problems I have with this book is that some of the pictures are from a profile view and the front and back are not shown. The other problem I had was so few items from the 50's :( (I know its not a book dedicated to the 50's but I love that era ).Even with those in mind I would not hesitate to purchase this book again at a higher price point.. I would have really REALLY liked to see some garments by the infamous Olga Nikolaevna Bulbenkova, one of the creators of those wonderful Russian court gowns sported by the Romanov (Last Imperial Dynasty) family to hold the throne. Is it worth it? Yes

Smaller than a “Coffee Table Book” , but photography of details makes up for it.
Smaller hardback (6”x8”x1.5”), not a “Coffee Table Book”, but well-bound and easy to hold. This is a picture book of The Collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute. The photography is gorgeous and there are many close-ups of details of the garments, & photos of accessories such as 18th century fans, 20th century shoes, French stomachers, corsets, etc. Men, women, and some children’s fashions are included. The oriental influence is highlighted throughout, especially in the early and late 20th century. The garments are mostly English and French.

i like it
i thought there would have been a little bit more background information along with the pictures but thes like 1-2 descriptions of the designs in this book. though there are a lot of designs in here through the years to get a good feel about the fashion from the earlier years. i still like it for a nice coffee table book or inspiration

Lots of great pictures
This book has lots of pictures of actual vintage clothing. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in seeing actual garments rather than drawings. It also has good descriptions of each one. I have several books on fashion history and this is one of my favorites. And while it has 645 pages with the index, it it about 8" x 5 1/2" making it easier to carry with me than my others

I'm impressed!
For $8.31 this was a hell of a buy. Took a bit longer to get to me than usual, but I am very happy with this book. The book is jam-packed with beautiful, colored photos of antique outfits. The paper is good quality too despite the price. Even my roommate was impressed by both the price and quality of the book. I highly recommend buying this. It is very much worth more than its cost and makes for a very interesting and fascinating coffee table or library addition. Shout out to the seller!

Beautifully detailed
Beautifully detailed photos. I don't really understand why the founders of the Kyoto Costume Institute felt Japan needed an institute of mostly English and French costume, but they have done a great job of presenting their collection, particularly through the 1970s. One of the themes brought out in the text is the influence of Chinese and Japanese textiles in French and English fashion, which adds distinction to the narrative. Once the history arrives at the 1980s and more so after, the presentation focuses on designer fashion as presented on runways rather than what real people were wearing. I have found this to be true in other fashion histories as well, though.

My Current Favorite Reference Book
I'm trying to cut down on buying books (sorry, dear Amazon) and picked this up at the public library. Within 15 pages I knew I had to own it for the rest of my life. The color photos are revelatory, the scholarly details fascinating. I love the format: small and thick. Every once in a while, there is some reverse-out type (like white letters on black background) that is annoying, but then one encounters that everywhere. I don't think I've ever given five stars before. That might be because of the price. This is an incredible bargain. Highly recommended.
